Question putting together a basic tool kit

i'm planning on taking an extended trip this coming summer and would like to have a tool kit containing the basic tools in order to get out of minor problems on the road. i don't really want to bring the whole tool box.for example : what would be the size of hex tools that would come in most handy, i'm sure that i don't need to carry all sizes. sockets and wrenches as well.

Zip ties and duct tape fix everything!

harley sells two tool kits in their accessory catalog, and I think they tell you what is in them. there are also a couple of good kits on amazon that you can use as a guide.

there ave been a few threads on this, you may find best advice with a search.

1.) T27 torx bit/ driver ( NOT T25 !!!)

b.) some of us swap out torx head machine screws for allen heads to reduce the number of tools carried.

depending on the machine and my trust, I have toured with the shop manual...

snap on makes a harley kit its nice but very pricey,I always add a small pair of vise grips (with cutter)and a small ball of wire.u can clamp vise grips to broken cable ends or even stripped shifter shafts.

Screwdrivers, a T27 torx bit, a pair of vice grips and channel lock pliers, a ratchet with your basic sockets, a couple of combo wrenches, some loctite, sandpaper, tire repair kit, spark plug socket, a few zip ties, electrical tape, some needle nose pliers and wire snips.

Lately as I have been working on my bike I compiled this list of most commonly used tools and plan on putting a kit together from this. Although once I see it together I'm sure I will go over it and try to cut back some.

3/8" drive ratchet
3/8" short extension
3/8" drive hex bit sockets - 5/32s(short), 7/32s, 1/4s, 5/16s, 3/8l(long)
3/8" drive sockets - 1/2d(deep well), 5/8d, 12mm(shallow)
3/8" drive torx socket - T25, T27, T40
Combination wrenchs - 7/16, 5/8, 5/16, 12mm
Open End wrench - 7/16 x 3/8
Small Flat blade screwdriver
Interchangeable tip screwdriver - P1, P2, T25, T27
Short allen key - 5/64
Pliars - side cutting, needle nose

These I did not use but would add:
10" adjustable, 7" vise grip
zip ties
photo hanging wire
tire plug kit
Co2 cartridges
electrical tape

Another good aftermarket toolkit comes from Cruz Tools, they have multiple versions. If you do not want to buy one of theirs, you can see their content list and build one for yourself.

Windzone HD-1. Add some zip ties and duct tape; fuses and jiffy stand spring and go any where. Funny thing--i've never needed it for my own bike but have helped many others.

Carl

PS: don't hold me to the Windzone p//n--I bought it 7 years ago.
