Default Help wiring a horn

Looked and couldn't find a thread. I bought a dual tone horn from Metal Arts last year. (Wouldn't do it again, but, that's another story) At first it seemed to work great but very quickly lost the dual tone. At some point it was suggested it may need a relay. I have to admit, not an electrical guy and I just don't know what this means or how to wire install it. I would be very appreciative if someone took the time to explain it to me....what I need, how to wire. Thanks in advance for the help.

see if this helps. A relay will allow you to get more power to your horn, without enough power to the air pump the horn will be weak sounding. Kind of strange yours only blows one tone, I haven't experimented with them but it seems like they should both work, maybe weak sounding but they should both work. Are you sure there is not some other problem. I have dual Howards Horns with a relay ( I too would not do that again), about once a year I need to clean and oil them or they start sounding bad with only one tone.

easy as hell
be sure to also add a fuse on the line to the battery

basic idea -- the 2 lines from your stock horn ocnnect to the relay
u then run 12volt from the battery to the relay ---
ground ur horn and ur done

the horn will get its power from the battery

the stock horn wires will just supply/trigger the relay to lets say turn on and let the power from the battery run threw it to make the horn work
without a relay it may/ will burn up the wiring and or fuses easily
with it your safe !!
hope it kinda helped

you cant mess it up

JJNoble...thanks so much for the help. Hope you don't mind a couple more questions. In regards to the relay, makes a lot of sense. Do I need heavy gauge wire? You mentioned you oil and clean your horns each year. I took mine apart but not sure what to clean and where I would oil. By the way, called Metal Arts for a little help and of course, never heard back. Really appreciate the help. Thank you.
