When I take the PCIII out of the picture, the bike runs fine BUT you can't run it long without either a Stage 1 download OR a SERT/PCIII. I have Rinehart TD's and an Arlen Ness air cleaner. If my bike didn't have the hesitation coming off idle, I'd be happy but I've tried a couple of dyno's and it's still there. Other than that, PCIII is fine. But with that, I find it unacceptable and potentially dangerous. As much as I hate to give more $ to MOCO.

Amreican Iron magazine had a two or three part series on this subject that coveredit in detail. I had the same questions when I upgraded my stock '04 RKC. Iput ona set of V&HOvals and Big Sucker air cleaner. I went with the Techlusions which is similar if not the same as the Kuryakyn Wild Thing. Per the AI article about half of the stock EFI's fuel mixtures are rich enough that a seperate tuner is not reuired for this upgrade and the TFI Techlusions or Wild Thing are sufficent when adjustment is required. The article explain how modern manufacturing can have such variation. In my opionion the PCIII and SERT maybe over kill for this application, however if you need a tuner and/or are planning on more advanced upgrades later this may still be the right way to go, otherwise you may want to try without and see how the bike runs. Not sure if your bike is an '07, but if so the O2 sensore should automatically correct the fuel mixture for the mods without adding anything to the EFI.

Increasing air flow through the motor with the air cleaner and pipe mods will lean the fuel mixture. The fuel provides cooling and therefore lean mixtures will increase the engine heat. Personnaly if my bike ran fine without adding the tuner I would have probably left it as it was, but if you want to save a few bucks and be on the safe side with no plans of future mods, go with the Techlusions or Wild Thing.

More to think about. I'm sure this will stir things up with those who worshipat the SERT and PCIII alters.

It would be a waste to spend money on a Harley download , that is a fact. Get your self a PC and a dyno tune .

Well I ordered the Stage 1 Air Cleaner - and some V&H Oval Slipons... I'm going to skip the true duals for now and see how this works.

I was talking to my dealer/mechanic - and asked if I should get the PCIII, he said that HD had a download for the Stage 1 & slip-ons that will work just fine and why waste my money..

Question with this minimum amount of modifications is the PCIII a waste of money?? Or will it really help it run cooler.

Every new bike this guy had on the floor had V&H true duals, Slip ons and the Stage 1 air cleaner - no PCIII.

Just before x-mas I swapped my 06 Ultra for an 07. I had the 06 for just over 1 year. Had over 21000 miles onher whenI traded her in. Just after the 1K service I put a PCIII on the 06. Changed the map once or twice during the year. I had the bike running to my liking. Well when I traded her inI took the PCIII off to use on the 07 (something you can't do with a SERT). and may didI forget how CRAPPY my bike used to run before the PCIII. The back firing was rediculous and the heat was roasting my legs and thighs. I would highly recommed the PCIII, you can't go wrong. Loving it on my 07 Ultra.

In light of many of us having the same problems with the PCIII, I would not buy one until they are fixed.

From what I've seen in this (and other HD forums), people with PCIII problems are by far in the minority. In this thread alone I only saw two people posting negative, compared to lots more that are in favor of them!

Since you had a map pre-installed, have you considered saving it on your laptop and trying to create your own map? Even using the base for your setup (that comes on the CD with the PCIII, or you can update a more current version), and tweaking it from there?

There is no problem with the way a PCIII makes your bike run, just that it causes a slower than normal start than without it, and this is not the pcIII it is your wiring on the 06/07 bikes doing it.
Now for those who want the mythical SERT, which is really nothing at all except a one bike only link into your stock ECM, it is not a bolt on or even a hard part, it is just a plug in computor link that allows you to acess the tuning on your stock ecm, something harley figured out a way to make money on rather than give you. They even charge you extra for the required cable to hook it to your laptop. The other thing is after you spend the close to 500.00 you find out its one use only and can not be removed or used on any other bike except the one you used it on first. PCIII is cheap and does the job as good or better than the SERT, plus you can remove it, and use it on another bike or sell it if you are not happy with the result.

OK, I have some questions for the tuners. On the past 2 EFI's I used a SERT that was dealer dynoed and was happy with the results, but alas the SERT's went with the bikes. Not happy with $$$ that I lost. I am hell with a carb, but EFI is new to me and I am still learning.

I now have the 05 RK and have been collecting parts for her. Stock 88, and there wont be any mods to the internals for awhile. I have gathered up a set ofpunched out 04 mufflers that are probably the equal to SE slip-ons, I will be doing Fulsac dual head pipes, and have a SE Stage 1 A/C. I know that the RK will run lean, hell it runs lean now.

1. Is there a problem with the PC on the 05's?
2. Is the stage II download the one that bumps the rev limit?
3. Are the downloads on the website a good starting point?

I am done with having any tuning done at the dealer and am going to learn EFI, so any help would be appreciated.
