starter coupling in inner primary

Default starter coupling in inner primary
There is a coupling that sits in the inner primary. There is a snap ring in it closer to one end. I have searched the internet and looked at my service manual and can't find the answer.

Does the snp ring in that coupling sit closer to the starter or the clutch?

Thanks

This was installed by a shop and the snap ring was loose when I disassembled everything. Just want to make sure it is right.

Leave it to Dawg to have the answer..
Maybe we should just rename this section.. "Ask Dawg for the RIGHT answer?" lol
