Shift stiff especially downshifting

Shift stiff especially downshifting
Started all of a sudden. Shifter is so stiff, sometimes have to like stomp on it to downshift. All fluids are at correct levels. Clutch cable adjusted tight.
Any suggestions where to start?

primary chain tension ?
overly tight ?
easy to check that.
if that is the problem ( and check the shoe for wear through) then the Hayden M6 is a great retrofit for the evo.
also the clutch itself is adjusted through the round cover on the primary case- after which the clutch cable is adjusted for correct lever action.
first one, THEN the other.
this is important.

Start there, by disconnecting the linkage and see if the shifter shaft/bushings are bound up. If they are free, pop the top off the transmission and pull the shift drum out. Check the shift drum bearings, manually slide the shift forks, and check the shifting pawl (while the shift drum is removed from the transmission). After that, it's pulling the gear set out and checking the gears/bearings...
