Friend's 2000 Fatboy was doing that same thing on a trip... wound up being the main circuit breaker.

 

I had pretty much the same thing when I bought my bike. It had been sitting unused for a while. I ended up replacing the fuel pump and the filter. Wasn't that big a job but was kind pricey. Good luck with your search and let us know what you find...
