Hello Fellow HDForumers. It's been a while since I have posted anything. Been on night shift and would home and hit the sack.
Well on 3/30 as I'm on my way to work an SUV decided he wanted my lane. What he failed to see was me and another car ahead which he plowed into the *** end of. To avoid a major impact I went into skid mode and laid my beautiful 01 UC down. I came off and went road sliding, bike kept going and hit the side of the SUV. I walked away with some minor road rash and bruises. Bike was not so lucky due to front end damage it was considered totaled. This is bitter sweet as I poured a lot of blood, sweat, & tears into the 01, but now I get to look for a replacement. It's not as easy as I thought it would be.
5 or 6 speed?
Stay above 09?
ABS?
Security system?
UC or UC limited?
Do I even test ride a road glide?
These are all personal choices that I will have to make, but as I said, its not easy. Oh well, there are worse things in life to be troubled over.
Sorry to hear about the accident but glad you are okay. I have an 01 Road King I have sunk a ton of money into and don't know how I would come out of it money wise were the same to happen to me. If I were in your shoes and able to drop the coin I would be riding a Road Glide.
As said above, glad you are ok. Take a walk around the dealership and see what turns you on. Lots has changed since 2001. Beware of sticker shock. Good luck and happy hunting
Very sorry to hear about the crash, and that your bike was totaled. Thankfully, you could walk away. Good luck on your search for a new ride, keep us posted on your progress.
Hidden damage for fork assembly replacement was estimated over 3500. The right fork was pushed back about 1/4", axle was bent, wheel, and brakes would need replaced. Tour pack had a crack on left side, left saddle bag lid and guard needed replaced. Painted tour pack combined with saddle bag, and front fender $$$$$$$. No one could say with certainty that there was no frame damage.

What's the pro's to a road glide?
Glad you were OK.
The biggest problem with a RG is the windshield. Finding the right one can be a chore. That's why I went right to a Madstaad.
Also with the fixed headlights you will not be able to ride around corners at night and my radio has been stuck on a Bulgarian goat roping channel for 2 years because I can't reach the radio to change the channel!
Glad you're in better shape than the bike. Yes to all the following: 09 and above, ABS (kind of like a concealed weapons permit, I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it), security is cheap and convenient.
I agree with walking through a dealer and seeing what grabs your eye, but highly recommend a test ride on the road glide. Make sure you do it early in the day so you have time to fill out the paperwork to make it yours when you get back. No bias at all on my end.........
