Default Helmet Headset

I purchased a new fullface helmet today from the dealer. I am trying to install the Harley Davidson headset that came with my bike on the helmet and am having some differculty. The directions aren't much help. Anyone out there have a full face helmet with the headset on it that can help me out.

Where seems to be the problem? I have installed several headsets in various brands of helmets and might be able to lend a hand.

Which side should the clamp be on? What part of the helmet is best to clamp the headset? Do you have a photo of one of your helmets that can assist me?

I installed mine on half helmets but I think it works the same as on full.
I installed them on the left side (left if youare wearing it) and the clamp on the inside of the helmet.
The plug and bulky part are on the outside.
Hope that helps.

Presuming your paring the helmet/headset with an ultra, you'll want it on the left side because the jack for the headset is on the left side of the tank, otherwise it will could end up crossed and cause tension on the cable ends where they feed into the plugs themselves. Beyond that, the jack into the helmet isn't very secure and can pop out if you load the cable... I've heard of several people chip the paint on their tanks when the then spring loaded steel plug-end popped off their helmets and impacted the tank (I reckon could happen if you dismount your bike prior to disconnecting the plug.) Be sure to use a small zip-tie to secure it down and prevent such unpleasantness.

Thanks it is for my Ultra. I will keep a look out for the cord and chip paint.

Mine is on the left side of both the front and rear helmets. That is because they are connected to the bike on the left side.. It makes it easier to get on and off with them on that side..

As far as connecting them to the helmet.. you will have to force the clamp onto the helmet. Between the padding and the fiberglass outer shell. It is a tough job but can be done. I also routed the cables between the liner (padding) and the outer shell. to make it look good.

When we dismount the Lady has a system that she uses to get on and off with. She has the helmet plugged in before she puts it on and then before she gets on the bike she plugs into the bike, facing the bike then spins around clockwise so that the cord is behind her when she gets on.. I also stretched the cord to all for the extra lenght to get on with... We have had no problems as of yet...

Good luck...

I was worried about destroying the helmet by forcing the clamp between the padding and the fiberglass. I will attempt ti do it again.

You won't damage the helmet forcing the clip in position. Key is ta have it rotated far enough forward ta ensure that the mike sits directly in front of yer lips. Someone else mentioned the tendency of the cord ta pop out an' chip the tank - he's absolutely right! Ah've tossed mah OEM an' have ordered a new J&M headset, which will also give me better audio quality...
