While changing my fork oil I noticed some cracking or deterioration around the ignition module that the ignition post and key switch slide into. Its the black rubber casing that holds the tumblers. Upon closer inspection it has cracks all around the casing and I am going to replace tomorrow.
In looking at the manual, it says theres a special tool needed that very long and narrow to detach or release the wires from inside the module. Is this tool needed or does anyone know a work around for this? Appreciate any advise on swapping this out. Thanks.

I'd love to see some photos of the swap you have going on. I have a project going here where I am interested in using an ignition switch from a fairing model on my FLHP so that I can mount a 4" speedo next to my tach that is mounted between my bars using a 2-up gauge cluster.
In looking at my 09 manual it looks like one could possibly use a long standard screw driver rather than the HD-45961 tool. Good luck!

Reason: typo...
I'm interested in this too. I ran my wiring internally in the frame this winter when I raked it and did mine without the tool. I broke the clip that holds it in. I couldn't figure it out and got too rough with it.
