Angry Sissy bar wont fit the docking hardware!

New Street Glide purchased a few weeks ago. I got the sissy bar (PN 54248-09) for the OL, with 4 point docking hardware, but ive had it off since i got it home because she hasnt been riding with. It was a pain in the *** to get off the bike when i got it home from the dealer, but didnt think much of it.

Today i went out to put it back on and it wont fit! The latches on the sissy bar are too narrow for the docking hardware! It is pretty obvious after checking out that the dealer forced it on before.

Ive tried pulling the legs of the sissy bar apart to widen it, but its not working and i dont want to damage it. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? Anything i can do?

Happens more often than not. You have to stretch them out just a bit. It happens all the time. It is just tight enough that it becomes a PITA but it is easily fixed with brute force. Once you spread it it will maintain the shape and no longer a problem.

Try using a jack to spread it. It should only be just a bit.

Hey there mate. Ya sure you are using the gaps at the top of the shocks to put the first part of the sissy bar in? Then just open the latches and push down on the front pins of the 4 point docking hardware. It will click right in

Agree with Android. Mine was very tight at first and a real pain. Thankfully wife started riding her own bike and I don't need things like that any more

Yeah im using the right part of the dock. The front part over the shocks fits fine. The back part hits on top of the washers. Right now its about a 1/4" too narrow overall.

When I picked up my SG my dealer had a hard time getting the sissy bar and luggage rack off. They warned me that it takes a while to loosen up and fit easier.

Like I said bro. It happens a lot. Try the car jack method. You will be pleased and this will no longer be an issue. At least not until you try another sissy bar or detachable accessory

Mine fit tight also took back to dealer the said I could stretch it out or take the metal spacer s off the docking station and grind a little material off the metal spacers on each side. That's what I did and has worked fine.

It's normal. Take a screwdriver flat head and look at what's going on and what's hitting what.

With minimal effort and with out scratching the chrome stick the flat head in between the dock hardware point and your sissy bar connection point.

You'll be amazed how little effort you need to make to make it spread a tiny bit and it will pop into the dock cradle.

Same here... no where near a 1/4 inch though, maybe 1/16. As long as the latches are clipping into place without being forced you're OK. Like the others said, you can spread the legs apart and get a nice fit from there on out. I'd recommend taking a breath a going into it when you aren't feeling aggravated by it... you can do more damage than good if you horse it too quick or too far.
