20w50 conventional in the cool months, getting ready to do the hot months switch to 50. 70mi/day, 31k miles later. . .all is peachy!

Oil debates...meh...how quiet do you really need it when you straddle a motor?!

I'd like to see Harley put some engineering analysis into this. Maybe they could change the cam profile with a quieting ramp or something with the rocker box covers to keep them from radiating the sound. Seems like they would want to do it because they could have a louder exhaust if they could reduce the noise from the valves. The total vehicle noise would be the same but more of it could be "good noise".
I tried the Valvoline 50w racing oil at my 5k service valve noise got worse right after I changed it. I ran it for about 1000 miles and put Redline back in noise did not change. My bike did not like the valvoline at all 2012 Streetglide

I'm switching to Vaseline...Not Valvoline.
That don't work...Then KY Jelly.
I've gotten a lot of noise from the KY stuff , but it was a nice sound.

Wild Card posted "SON" (me) should do my homework on the reason syn is noisier. Wouldn't you know it the first site I went to was Mobil's. Wild Card should do a bit of research himself although he probably knows molecules better than anyone. Take a look SON and see what Mobil says about this. Also, you can find as many credible yea's and nay's on whether syn in noisier.

Maybe Wild Card should not be such a condescending dou&^ and look around himself. Oh I'm prepared for the scientific molecular explanation again.. Thanks Dr. WIld Card.

Any time . I see you havnt studied much, just come back to flap the jowls. All the down talk cuz I said son...wow your a real loose cannon. Personally don't give a damn but I am here...lets roll Jack.

It is funny that all I had to do is google molecular difference between syn and dino oil and I got pages of what I said...I just did it so it should still be in the google memory banck for you to study. I expect a full report in the morning...and no apology needed.

I haven't tried a partial syn oil and thinking about Brad Penn oil but dint want to start another oil thread! The only solution that makes sence is concentrating on the lifters.....I dint know how to do it but I'm studying and picking up that skill. Someone whose real good doing a DYI thread would be awesome.
Installing lifters is not bad at all if you have adjustable push rods. I have Gaterman's 1023 lifters I just picked up that I will be installing Memorial weekend. Will let you know how they turn out when I test them out.

Directional lifters make all the difference, I will stick with Amsoil.

In a few years when Harley goes to watercooled heads they will quiet down. Or you can wait till you get older after riding without earplugs for years then you won't be able to hear sh#!.
