I have not priced out a CVO model, but from I've read here, MSRP (less prep fees, etc) and maybe 20% off on future parts is about the best you can expect.
HD is advertising the MSRP on a 2013 CVO Road King as $29,999.00 so if you have a line on one at 27,999 then you probably aren't going to find a better price. Most dealers sell them at MSRP and higher, depending on the local area demand for CVO's.
I bought one last fall and paid MSRP so 27 and change looks pretty good, likely not going to get a better deal than that. Also, you are one heck of a wife!! good for you!!!
There is a lot of profit in that bike for the moco. Offer $1000 less and make them throw in the 1000 mile service for free. If they have a CVO on the floor and a solid customer they will not let you walk. Make the offer give 'em your phone # and head for the door tell 'em you found another one at another dealership you are going to look. That's the way I roll and it usually works.
Last month I went into the dealer to finally buy my Street Glide. Called the wife and said, "Baby, I'm getting my Harley this weekend." and she said "Okay, but consider that your birthday present." (Birthday was about a week away)
Thought I was doing good until she asked "So what kind of money are we talking? Thirty-five, forty grand?" That CVO RK started looking like a serious option!!! But I figured I'd stick with the SG and drop the other 15K into goodies!!
Great gift, though - he'll love it, I'm sure!! And FWIW, the one I was looking at was at MSRP, $29,999, and no wiggle room at all. That did come with a $1K spiff for accessories and 20% off on goodies for a year...
