Default Torque wrench ranges

I'm gonna tell me wife to buy me a torque wrench for fathers day next month. Sears has them on sale. I know they come in a variety of torque ranges. Which range would be most useful for working on my RKC? Thanks.

Depending on what you're working on, you'll want to get a ft/lbs wrench AND an inch/lbs wrench.

The ft/lbs wrench will give you more use though.

I know you mentioned Sears, but their reviews aren't very great.

I have this one:

CDI Torque 1002MFRMH 3/8-Inch Drive Metal Handle Click Type Torque Wrench, Torque Range 10 to 100-Fo - Amazon.com CDI Torque 1002MFRMH 3/8-Inch Drive Metal Handle Click Type Torque Wrench, Torque Range 10 to 100-Fo - Amazon.com

Made by CDI (a Snap-On company) and it's been very solid and I would get it again without hesitation.

Hope it helps!

Oh, I also got both of mine from Amazon. Excellent service all around.

I just got this one a couple weeks ago. Used it for my 15k miles service and it was able to cover all the ranges needed. Some of the measurements need to be calculated from ft-lbs to in-lbs or use the nM Metric scale which is also listed in the service manual for each torque requirement.

I would imagine this wouldn't cut it if you need to do heavier stuff like wheels. Then you would need one that uses larger ft-lbs range.

Believe it or not Harbor Freight torque wrenches have tested fairly accurate. You can buy both ft. lbs and inch lbs. usually on sale for good prices.

I got both the 3/8 & 1/2 torque wrenches from Sears. Ft-lbs. Both works perfect. You can always go online if you need to convert from in-lbs to ft-lbs.

I have 2 elcheapo ft lb (3/8 and 1/2 drive) and a very good quality in lb...in lb fasteners are not forgiving.

I wouldn't go cheap on the in lb

I bought a set of three that each cover a different range off of ebay for just over 40 bucks.

I've had 3 different craftsman torque wrenches for a long long time they work great. I needed to get another one for my other garage so I went to sears and bought one ,I got home and was torquing a bolt down and the ***** broke got to looking at it and low and behold made in china nothing but a piece of ****. They still have the USA made ones but their a little bit more money but IMHO their worth it. Now if I could only have one it would be the 3/8 drive until I could afford a 1/2 drive. Just try and stay away from the china chit, and if you can't you might as well go to harbor freight and get it for half the money.

If you are going to invest into a torque wrench don't go cheap.
It is a investment, not a cost.
