I am getting serious about the Truck Lite headlight. Why go with HD when you can get a comparable product for half the price. Anyway, there has been mention that the headlight sticks out a little bit and it is recomended that you replace the trim ring. What trim ring are you using. I don't want that tacky looking halo ring. Just plain chrome will work.
On my 09 Ultra, I went with the Truck LIte and the Visor style from HD To my memory the bottom of the new headlight did stick out at the bottom but the visor covered up ok to me
I have the full truck lite setup on my ultra. Headlight and passing lamps. Bright as all get out. Huge improvement over even the PIAA bulbs I had installed prior. What you need is the French ring. There are two styles: visor 69733-09, and regular 69627-99
I started out using the brighter bulbs, but they kept burning out, so I upgraded to TruckLight. It is much brighter, and throws a longer beam.
It did stick out a bit, so installed a "Frenched" trim ring I got at Harley. Looks great and makes night driving much less stressful.
Seems like everybody on this forum is looking for perfection in everything and this light, like everything else can be picked apart if you need to have that perfection.
These lights were developed under a US Government contract to provide better illumination for our GI's looking for IED's and other critical missions. They are made of military grade components with metal castings for the reflector housing and with polycarbonate lenses. They last 10 times longer than standard bulbs (100 time longer than the higher wattage aftermarket bulbs) and draw 1/3 the electricity.
They cost less because Truck Light was given the money to develop them by the US Military.
They install in just a few minutes (plug n' play) and if you found out they are not up to your standards of acceptability they can easily be resold in the forum. (or you can lower your standards just a bit)
Sorry about the tough post, maybe I need another cup of coffee : >)
I used the Frenched trim ring from Harley. If you install it right, there is no gap at the bottom and the TruckLite sits flush with it. As far as the pattern, I think people are so concerned about where the 'hotspot' is that they don't notice that you can see everything around in front of and to the side of you. Turning on the high beam is like calling forth the sun!
I drive with the highbeams on during the day (Trucklite) the other day a street sign across the road was way lit up and it was bright and sunny out, I thought it was reflection from the chrome strip on my windshield, but just top be sure turned them to dim. Sure as shinola it was the headlight!! Think I need to lower the aim a bit though!
