Default seat cleaning

Ok,
So my new street glide is the first bike I have ever had that I believe actually has a leather seat (right?). Is there anything special you guys use to clean and keep the seat looking new? I have been cleaning it with normal soap and water (meguires car wash) but I just realized that I dont think it is a vinyl seat like my other bikes.................

My 2011 Street Glide has a vinyl seat from the factory. Unless you upgraded your seat, it should be vinyl as well. I clean it with the same soap I clean the rest of the motorcycle with. I try not to really soak it with water as the stitching absorbs the water and takes a little while to dry.

A guy locally who fixes and recovers bike seats said to oil the seats monthly, even if they are vinyl, to keep the stitching from drying out (rain and sun). If you have a mix of leather and vinyl panels oiling it regularly will stop shrinkage of the leather, warping the rest of the seat and pulling the seams out of position.

I told him I use Buffalo butter http://www.chilhowee.net/leather-care/BB001.html which he said was fine, any leather oil. You can also get leather conditioners at horse supply stores, and I think Harley has one too.

I know you aren't going to believe this but try it before you judge. I tried some black shoe polish not liquid the paste like we spit shined in the service with rub it in and wipe it to a shine. WORKS AWESOME AND WATERPROOFS

Kiwi Mink oil (actually a paste) -- softens and waterproofs. Great on boots as well.
Neatsfoot oil is also good. (used on baseball gloves and other leather sporting goods)
