I love it when people say it can be done and then back off the statement because they did something different or had a different part.

I was putting in a SE spring and I am sure you can force it in if you twist it enough, but why chance srewing it up. As far as it being a spring and that is why they call it that, well spring is used loosely here, it has some give to it but IMO not enough to get through the inspection hole.

Geez. Really? Dude probably just wants to know what parts to pick up. It's not like it's a difficult job. Personally I'd just go ahead and pull the cover.

Already went and got a new gasket and am pulling the outer primary. Simple job, just asked a question because I read somewhere that it could be but I don't want to bend or force anything. Thanks for your help.

Sounds good! If you haven't already installed the new gasket you may find the old one is still just fine in which case save 35 bucks or whatever it cost and return it. Many success stories doing this.
