long way to ride to use a pump . . . Kansas to Chicago? LOL! These pumps really should be standard equipment on a new bike.

Rico,

Your owner's manual gives you recommended shock pressure settings based on weight of the load (rider/passenger and gear/luggage if any).

When my '09 RK is fully loaded for a road trip with King TourPak I run 45-50 psi. Without luggage just riding to/from work I run around 35-40 psi.

Shrewd lady! Are you sure you've been paying attention while she was complaining about the ride?!

'12 e.g. classic...weigh 250...OL 130...saddlebags, tour pack, and tour pack rack full of crap--run 45 lbs. in shock. keep front tire at 40 psi and rear at 42 psi.

I have one of the HD pumps. Love it! Use it on my #2 bikes air forks. Also my foot powered bike wheels. Very versatile.

$50 for an air pump is absolutely and 100% pure ****ing ridiculous. The Chinese one at Walmart is less than half the price of the Chinese one at HD and it works absolutely fine.

The saving grace for the HD pump (and others of the same design) is that it does not loose even the tinest bit of pressure when you un hook it.

Other pumps can loose a significant amount of pressure from this tiny system.

They do not include in on every bike, because many people have one already from previous bikes. (or borrow their neighbors).

Bicycle pumps do not work well, and a compressor cannot regulate the tiny amount of air that is used to adjust the pressure.

The Beto Bicycle Shock Pump at Walmart is $27 and has the same features and made in the same country.

The pump may be cheaper but with a gauge that goes from 0-400 psi it is pretty useless on my '06 FLHTCUI shocks that have a 30 psi max.
