Agreed, I did exactly the same thing with one small addition - I added lock washers to lessen the likelihood of the bolt backing out during a ride.

With a security Torx bolt for the seat, and a black plastic bolt cover, I think I was into this security project all of $10.

It won't stop a determined thief, but it will slow them down, and possibly get them to look for easier targets.

Ordered the Brukus bag kit and seat kit. Ya I know I could of got it cheaper by doing it myself, but I wanted to support a guy on this forum.

Went to Lowe's and got a length of 3/32nd steel wire, put a loop on each end. Loop it through itself and through one rear saddle bag mount, through the tourpak mount, and then through the other rear mount. Secure the second loop to the cable with a small pad lock. I also got some clear air tubing there and inserted the steel wire in it to help prevent scratching. The steel wire, anchors the bags to the bike. Thief would need strong wire cutters. Nothing is absolute.

That was my first trip to the Jersey Shore since 1959 (when I lived in Philly). I must say that I was favorably impressed with what I saw riding through the beach towns from Cape May up to Atlantic City. I didn't have time to go further north, but I'll put that on my list.

I did the same thing, and put lock nuts on the back of the rear bolts, I'm sure it will slow any one down. 4 deep 5/16 u nuts and bolts at lowes.

Hmm, that's not a bad idea. Lets you still remove the bags easily and quickly, but provides a pretty good security measure, both from theft and from them falling off while riding.

As an alternative to looping it back, one could buy a set of locks and have just a single span of wire with a lock in each saddlebag.
