disconnect the wires...
2 bolts and the whole thing pulls out the right side of the bike.
that would be the hitachi starter..about 1978 to about 1992 or so.
great starters, easy to service
as above, the manual will tell you how to use a hacksaw blade to refurb and save $300.
most of the riders on this forum are riding late models.
HD forums also has an evo forum which may be of use to you.
