Don't use the closed endcaps, it will chock your engine and make it run real hot. I woulda started with the open caps with 15 taking 5 off at a time. I stopped at 5 each side with a de-catted stock header and they are just right for me.
I think you found the Holy Grail there, Tucci! I just got off You Tube and ran the sound through my home system so I could really evaluate the sound. I found two different videos, both with around 6 disc and an open end cap and that is the ticket. Great tone but low dBs. I'm ordering mine tomorrow. My headers are already decatted. Great tip. Thanks!

I think you hit the nail on the head, this is what I had last year when my motor started crapping out in 110 heat. I just had a crank up build and was going to stay with S/T, but am trying a thunderheader out right now. The motor screams with a T/H but it is god foresaking loud. I have been on the fence between the two, I just decided I am going with the S/T with about 35 discs (per S/T racing website) and the open end cap. Its not as loud as the thunder header. Thanks for the advice Tucci, that makes a lot of sense!
I've had BUB Stealth mufflers on the previous two bikes I owned. If you want a nice sound without being too loud these are the real deal, plus they are stamped 50 state compliant. They are 4" cans and come in either the BUB 7 or the BUB Straight 8. Over the years I've had just about every muffler on my bikes and these BUB Stealths have been the best. Check with Phat Performance Parts for availability.
I too had the V&H Monster Ovals and ran into the same problem as you. The low drone on longer trips drove me nuts.
I used Wild Pig pipes on my '07 Street Glide. They sounded nice round town, but drove me nuts on road trips, especially when facing a strong head wind. After one short month of use, I reinstalled my stock pipes.
I bought my Supertrapps from Jamie at Fuel Moto......I wanted the "supertrapp" logo on the side and I wanted to buy from Jamie....LOL.
If your not sure what DB works best for you, OR, sometimes you like it louder then others, the Supertrapp Fatshots are tough to beat.
I, too, wanted to buy my Supertrapps from Jamie since he hooked me up with everything else and, of course, the service is first class. I called about the Fatshots and told him you don't have to match the warehouse price, but get in the same ballpark and I would buy from him. He could only get within 50 bucks of the warehouse price plus I would have to pay 27 dollars shipping where the warehouse shipped for free. He said," I understand completely. The map for the Supertrapps will be there in a couple of days." Class act!!!
