cop bikes can be gems or turds depending on their history..
my 88 FXRP is a gem, the CHP took care of her and I got all the service records.
the police lights, radio, siren and other stuff were removed nicely, rather than hacked off.
The bike came new brakes, tires, lights and other "safety equipment" so the CHP could avoid any liability.
I would not consider an 08 and earlier bike to have comparable value
1+ on the 09 and up frame, world of difference. 02 has the best lower end of and twincam motor, forged crank and Timken bearings. IF I crater the 09, I'll spend the $$$ and update the bottom end to 02 specs and ride her the H311 and back.
Getting the new frame, bigger motor, and newer model would be worth going with the cop bike for my $$. You can update and change the little things without any problem.
09 is definitely when harley widened the rear tire. Uncle bought an 09 road glide right when it came out and everyone with the 08 became very disappointed seeing the new tire, not to mention how they changed the firing at idle.
I decided on the police bike, I don't think I could find another bike with the 103, oil cooler, abs etc. for that price. Looks and rides awesome. Coming from a sportster to this is a pretty big jump but I feel like I can ride this thing forever.
