Default Just noticed how to elminate engine noise.

When I go from this....

to this

alot of the little noises I hear from the engine go away.

LOL, I never adjusted these things. I put them on and they stayed shut for years.

Looks like the same pic. What did you adjust?

Oh, you opened the flap?

yep - opened the flap.
I put those on three years ago and never adjusted them... always closed. Today I open them and alot of engine noise goes away. When they are closed must be the way the air circulates and brings out certain noises.

They are like an echo board. Any noise the engine makes will bounce off of that and head straight for your ears. Good point, I usually remove mine completely in the summer months.

Its the reason I like to ride without the detachable screen. With it fitted the motor sounds like an industrial sowing machine

Shorter windshield takes a lot of noise away also.

My Road King sounds like a hundred death rattles with the windshield installed. Take it off, and the bike is virtually silent. The amount of reflected noise is remarkable. As is the quality of what is reflected. Every tick, whirr, scrape, etc. All bounced right back into my face.

You just need louder exhaust, makes all engine noise vanish with a twist of the throttle. :-)
