Default Metzeler 888

These tires are pretty new, but they got decent reviews, so I am trying a set of these now. I have looked on the tire, on Metzeler's site, searched here, googled it, no go. Where can I find the recommended tire pressure for them? Seems that the front tire bottoms out too quickly when I hit small divots in the road, but the front tire has 44 psi in it. Had chrome fork lowers installed last fall after my accident, and even with the Dunlops on it then, and it was pretty much the same thing. I wonder if the dealer got too much fork oil in them and the forks don't give as much as they should?

I contacted Metzler, they recommended 44 rear, 40 front. Just over 1000 miles so far, like'em, especially in the twisties. Any tire would have felt superior to the American Elites I was running since they had over 19k on them and were cupped badly. Time will tell!

Overfilling the front forks with oil will cause it to prematurely bottom out.

Both sidewalls front and rear of my 888's do state 40 lbs at max load.

I just put about 3300 miles on a new set of 888's on a 12 day trip through Nevada, Arizona and Utah. Great riding and handling tires. We will see if they last as long as Metzler is claiming they will.

I'm running 40 in the front and 45 in the rear.

Replacing my rear with the new triple 8s. Been running a full set of of 880s and really like them.

I did have to lower the front to 36 for handling when the tire was new. The sturdy new tire at 40 seemed to be riding just on the center and made steering too easy, almost like it was only making minimum road contact and cornering wasn't gripping. It's back to 40 pounds and the ride last night was very smooth.

The rear 880 is worn out at about 11,000 ... two seasons for me. I went to the 888 for the extended range of wear. Time will tell.

Default 888

I'm having some 888 put on front and back to replace the American Elite and 404's I have now. First set of Metzelers for me on my Road King and I do about 25,000 KM per year so we'll see if they last the whole season like they say they will.

I've run nothing but 880's on my '02 RK. They were an excellent choice, performed extremely well, particularly with rain groves on the roads. Never a problem and get about 8-10K in the rear, 16-20K on the front (yup, funny how that worked, eh?). Anyway, will be interested to hear how the 888's work when it comes time to replace my '12 SG stockers.

That is interesting as any time I went with a tire different than stock I contacted the manufacturer and was told to run the pressure HD recommends. I just today ordered an 888 as I was disappointed with the Michelin Commander II rear wear and how it handles tar snakes. I have just over 8K on them and the rear is down to 2/32. I did better than that with the Dunlop E III with best life at 11,500 but it was bald when replaced. Looking forward to the 888 and really hope it lives up to all the hype.
