Default Gps no-no

Well to start off I changed the rear pulley on my 07 Ultra Classic to the 68 from the 66 tooth pulley. Therefore I had to adjust my speedometer via my Thundermax. Well I adjusted it and thought I had better check to make sure the speed was right, so I grabbed my Garmin nuvi from the truck and thought hell it will suction cup right onto the face of the tach. So I stuck it on there and went for a ride around the country block. All was good except my speed was about 2mph fast. Tapped the brakes to turn of the cruise at the last turn to home and bam the GPS fell of the tach, suction cup and all bouncing off the tank and then to the road it went tumbling... Looked like to me that chit was flying....damn... well turned around and dug all of the pieces out of the ditch and I'll be damn it was still on and working fine. the suction cup had a little road rash right on the rim so I'm figuring that it took the brunt of the impact. The moral of the story don't mount your GPS to your tach even for a short 4 mile trip.

I'm sure there are a lot of adventures that gps units have been through. My wife and I travelled all day through Germany a couple of years ago, in heavy rain. We were dry inside, but our riding suits were saturated outside, so we asked the hotel if they could be tumble-dried. No problem, but I forgot I had put our gps in my pocket, before we rushed indoors, to get out of the rain. It came out of the pocket while inside the machine and had 'road rash' all over it! Took it a while to recover from its ordeal, but did work again for the rest of our trip.

So rule #1: don't use a suction cup; rule #2: don't use a tumble drier. Next?!

Sounds like you need a piece of rope to work as a tether.

i had my zumo 665 fall out of its mount....my fault, i was in a hurry and didn't seat it properly. anyway, it bounced out of the mount and off the bike. i stopped almost immediately and before i could get back to pick it up from the middle of the road, a car ran over it...then another, then another.....tires right over it. cracked the screen but still displayed but didn't move....checked my Progressive insurance policy and it paid for add-ons. i figured what the heck, i'd check. the adjuster came down, looked at the mount, looked at the unit....gave me a check for over $800 to get a new one. I have to give Flo a hug next time i see her.

Another member used this mount on his handlebar.
