Default Rear wheel - hard to change

I am getting Airstrike wheels . proabably gonna get new tires also and do the install myself.
Is it hard to swap the wheels? I htink the front should be pretty straight forward...... I know the rear has the "drive" what all is involved in that?

You Tube:

This video is for a 2008 Road Glide, but if you search You Tube, you can likely find someone working on a new larger rear wheel change. Not sure whats different in the removal process when you go to the larger rear wheel...

Ok I'll tell him.
Get a manual.
Tons of information on specs, torques, proceedures, sealants, grease, lock tights, ect.
If you have the drive to work on your own bike (and you seem to have it) go get a manual. it's your best friend.

The video is helpful. But you don't need to remove the mufflers. If you get creative like I did it can be done. I removed the upper shock bolts, and loosened the lower bolts so I could move shocks if needed. Put a block under the rear tire and lowered the jack. This moves the wheel up into the fender. All I had to remove was the left side lower bag brace. Installed my 18" rear wheel no problem this way.

its really pretty simple. with the newer wheels where the ids is incorporated into the wheel, there are no bolts to remove on the rear wheel. the sprocket just lifts off. the only bolts to worry about are the rotor bolts. be sure and use new ones there.

once you do it, you'll see how easy it is.

Straight forward job.

Ensure you have a good solid hoist/jack.

I would remove the mufflers - just makes things easier.

When putting the wheel back on ENSURE the brake disc is sliding between the pads. At times the tire will grab the brake mount jamming the install. I found coating the tire with mechanics hand soap where the rub occurs helps a great deal.

Torque the wheel nut (after adjusting belt) properly and ensure the snap ring is on.

If you are systematic and have the tools, you could probably do this with the info that comes with the wheels, however the instructions will almost certainly refer you to the factory service manual. As many of us will too! If you have any plans to do work on your bike, get that manual, you will get your money back on the first job you do yourself.

Pretty simple task. Get the $60 manual from th MoCo, take your time, and run the money saved through the tank or buy yourself a deserved drink or two..........

You need the manual, a torque wrench to at least 105# a 36mm socket, and a belt tension gauge. If you have anti-lock brakes you need to pay special attention to them. All explained in the manual.
