I didn't want to install passing lamps but I find myself riding at night a lot and the headlight just isn't cutting it. I have the HD LED installed on my SG. should I go with the LED passing lamps or the old style? I find that when I'm turning especially when leaning hard, the light becomes very minimal.
If money is not an issue, I would go with LED so it matches. You dont want the bright light of the LED and the dull light of stock passing lamps, would look like chit IMO. I dont like the looks of the HD LED passing lamp, looks weird, you can pick up TL LED lamps for under 200. http://www.easternperformance.com/pr...7%7D2-Housings.
I was out on saturday night and my wife noticed the difference. I was behind a RK and my wife commented on how my lights were the washed everyone's lights out in front of us.
Very worth the money. and I think it would look weird if they were not the LED.
If you go with HD's passing lamp mount kit, be prepared read, re-read and still have problems understanding their install instructions. Sometimes I believe they're written/developed by Chinese factory workers who don't even ride/own a HD or any bike. I just decided to "wing-it" and tings somehow fell into place. Good thing my USAF career included short stints with cryptography...

LED is the way to go and draws 1/2 the power, thus less current on that AUX circuit. With that said, I have tested both TruckLite & Harley spots and IMHO I would go with the HD ones. The TL are around $200 where the HD are around $318 (20% off) and the HD have twice the lumens. (280 vs. 550) and are noticeably brighter. For a little over $100 more and get twice the performance, I think it's a no brainer. They so need to be aimed properly and that goes for the headlight too. There are pitfalls to the LED lighting and search the forum for it. It's been beat to death.....
Beware of the HD LED passing lights 73396-10A. After a while, 14 months, mine began to fog up while riding. Harley warrants them for 12 months only. HD's customer service told me they will do nothing about it. Once the 12 months are up, that's it. So there goes $385 worth of lights. So check around. Some other suppliers warrant them for life.
