We are hoping to do more now that we have the Limited. The problem is it is difficult for her getting more than a 3-4 day weekend off (RN supervisor). So we just plan on short trips. One of these days, maybe she can take 2 wks and we can head west, it's on my bucket list.
That kind of mileage on a softtail gets a lot of kudos in my book. I have heard guys do 400 miles and are ready to tow the bike bike home...LOL

Did just shy of 4k in 10 days last year on my 06 fatboy. Did 920 (milwaukee to sturgis tried to do iron butt but gave up) in one day on that trip. Weather always plays a big part in any trip. A group of us do at least one big trip a year of over 3k. We always try have a couple days flexibility for the days we hit bad weather. I carry an air hawk in the saddle bag and take it on and off each gas stop. Also have drink holder to keep liquids in. Really hot days I load up a water bottle with ice and drink it as it melts. Wear under armour under my clothes too. Anything is doable as long as you plan and set it up correctly.

My longest was Minneapolis to Alaska and back. About 8400 miles in three weeks with my wife on the back of my Road King.
We are going to try that trip again next year, but take 4 weeks with her riding her Spyder and me on my Road Gluide. That is if we can convince our bosses to let us take 4 weeks in a row off.

From my house to Alaska and back was 9,000 miles in 14 days. Plus 1,000 miles to break in the bike and the service before starting.

Based on the conversion chart, that calculates out to...... about 6,237 actual "comfortable" miles!!

My two "long" trips were pretty good runs!

April 2005: I left Waverly, IA rode to Des Moines, then to Chicago, then to Birmingham, AL. Saw two days of NASCAR at Talladega Motor Speedway, and turned around to come home! Started out with a frosty 37° in Des Moines, 42° leaving Chicago, and 36° leaving Birmingham... then cold and windy all the way home! (Who knew we'd have a cold stretch to start out May, 2005!)

About 2,500 miles round-trip, in 5 days. Great trip, but the bike sat for about a week after that!
(2004 FLHPi with a stock seat and no mods!)

Sept 2012: Left the NW Twin Cities at 4:30 AM, 40° out, heading South.
Went thru Waterloo, IA to St Louis, to SE Missouri. The next day, went to see the Jack Daniels Distillery (and tour) then thru Chattanooga and finally arriving in Augusta. Toured around the S. Carolina/Georgia area a couple days (Waffle House!!), then rode back thru Deals Gap and The Dragon. Great weather the entire trip, once the sun came up that first day!

Rode just over 4,000 miles from Saturday to Saturday, getting home before noon that last leg!!
