Default Evo or Twin Cam? Need advice

Ok here is my dilema. I have a 99 FLHTC w/78k miles. Engine has 10k on the 95 upgrade. It has Andrews Non gear cams new cam plate full Thunder header exhaust. Mikuni carb screaming eagle ignition. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would place the cosmetics at a 6 or 7. (Pic below)

I had a guy offer to trade his 97 Heritage straight up. His has pretty much the same mods and 68k on the bike with 5k on the motor. (pic below). his bike would come in at a 8 or maybe 9.

My concerns are stepping from a twin cam to an EVO. I've been told the twin cam/tranny in the 99 is one of the best setups out there. I'm not looking to start a my motor is better than yours fight here just want to make sure I'm not making a trade I will regret.

Basically I want a dependable bike I can go anywhere on. I am not going to mod either any more than it allready is but want the one which gives me the most power and won't leave me on the side of the road. I could care less either way about the fairing and ride alone all the time.

Any help would be great.

Unless you were looking at something like his setup prior to his trade offer, I'd keep what you got.

X2. That EVO is a solid mount non-counter balanced vibrating SOB.

Funny how things change. Back in the day, you couldn't pour a twin cam on an evo guy, and vice versa. I would never have thought that it would be a toss up...

I listed my bike locally as a trade because I wanted something a little smaller, manuverable and quicker. My thinking was I would get someone with a Fatboy or such a year or so newer who wanted to swap. Ideally I would like my bike without the fairing but am not willing to go thru the hassel of stripping mine down.

Sorry to burst your bubble...

The 97 EVO is rubber mounted, (Edit: in FLT models since 1980? but not Softails. Sorry, my bad!), and the TC88 the OP has is a TC88A, not a counter balanced TC88B.

As for the trade, personally owning a 99 RK and having done quite a bit of work on EVOs, I would keep the 99. EVOs were a great engine, but no match for a TC, IMHO.

Another thing to think about is the fact that you are talking about a softail vs an electraglide. You will not be as comfortable on the softail, especially if you like long rides...

Lots of bubble bursting here.
The '97 Heritage has a solid mount non-counterbalanced Evo engine. It vibrates.
The '99 Electra Glide Classic is rubber mounted and virtually vibration free.
Advice? I would keep the '99 Classic because of the Heritage vibe issue (and I'm an Evo fan).
You can always spruce the old girl up a bit - and battle scars from actual usage should be looked upon with pride, my man.

Back when I got my first Ultra, back in 95, my buddy got a new Heritage. He wanted to swap rides for a short time on one of our evening rides. So I coaxed my wife into sitting on the back of the Heritage and going for a ride. After about 10 miles, she yelled "get me the H*** off of this f****** thing!" I've never been able to get her to try a Heritage again---even the new ones. If I were you, I'd try that Heritage out and be real sure that you don't mind the vibration. Believe me there is a tremendous difference.

that s a nice looking softail and you guys have the same air cleaner but if it was me I would keep the bike you have now or wait till another trade offer comes along. I had a Evo in my dyna wide glide. Good motor but base gaskets leaked like most Evos do. Its all in what.you want really. The Who was a good motor. Maybe setup a test ride with both bikes? Also yours looks nice in the pics but if the paint is an issue and you want to freshen it up I would us some Meguears ultimate compound then ultimate polish and then some s100 wax from Harley. Your paint will look great after.

At 50+ I am all about comfort and don't want my fillings rattled out of my head. Your reply alone has pretty much made up my mind. I will meet the guy and maybe go for a ride on it (I hate riding strangers bikes) but if what your saying is true (I have no reason to doubt you) I think I will pass.
