Been awhile since I've posted, have been caretaking Dad for a couple of years and too busy for much else besides that and work. Anyway, now on the other side of that and am getting back to loving life and the motorcycle as it should be! So wouldn't you know it, my tail light is now not working. I have an 06 Road King, with a Biketronics brake and turn for the turn signals. Everything works and has been for a few years, except no tail light but i do have brakelight on that bulb. Turns work as desired, for turn and brake. Tried a new bulb, same thing. The only thing recent is new turn signals on the front.
I am assuming the fuse is not to blame otherwise the center brake light would not work either. Is it narrowed down to the little harness that the bulb plugs into and connects to the chrome housing?
I'm having the same issue with my 2012 RK. License plate light is out as well, as it fed from the tail light circuit from what I can see. I'm wondering if the brake light and tail light are on the same circuit? Did you find a solution?
If you have a volt meter, check the contact in the bulb socket for the running light. If there is no power, start working your way forward on the color wire until you find power. Now, if you have the one filament bulb with the magic processor that makes the bulb work at different intensities, that could be your problem. You'd need a manual to see what wires feed the processor to verify it is getting what it needs. If the problem is up stream form that, keep tracing. Since you have already tried a different bulb, the next easiest thing is to check all fuses for any one that might have popped. Then re-check all of the connections you worked on for the front mod.

.
don't assume that. on my 07, i found coming in to work one morning at o dark thirty that i didn't have taillights either. but i did have brakelights. it was the fuse. the brakes were on a different circuit than the taillight. i'm thinking for that reason, if one fuse goes, it doesn't take out all lighting
