I read on the AARP site that this place was on the top 7 list of great motorcycle rides. I was wondering if anyone here has "been there, done that" and wouldn't mind sharing their experience, good or bad. I would definitely appreciate it... http://www.aarp.org/travel/destinati...eat-rides.html
I have spent the night there while riding the parkway, nice little place and a nice Bar b q joint that was the hot spot in town..The following morning I ran across a Bear first thing on the parkway..

Been there many times & plan to be there many more. Several good places to eat, some interesting tourist style shopping, but the trip is the best part. You can get there via the BRP, or hwy 221. Both are great rides. 'Course there isn't a bad ride in the Smokey's.
If you've got some time, head west on the parkway to Little Switzerland and check out the "Rattlesnake." It's a short loop of RT226A and RT226 but it is fun nonetheless. The Alpine Inn has a great view of the valley as it is built on stilts on the side of the mountain. There are 3 or 4 inns or motels in the area. I have not stayed at any of them as I was just passing thru. Enjoy the BRP.
Oh my...haven't thought about Blowing Rock in 20+ years. Wonder if she is still a waitress, wonder if she is still in town. Ahhh, memories. Thanks Fordhd
Wouldn't be my first choice of a place to stay. I usually pass thru much like Lake Lure and Chimmey Rock, they are never the destination. Like another posted, lots of road construction on 321. The BPR is awesome going south from Blowing Rock.
