Just the standard dealer responses
1. Deny problem exists
2. turn radio up drown out noise
3. louder mufflers same reasoning
4. suggest the 0903 remapping
5. shrug their shoulders
6. tell you that's just the way it is. It's normal

but FIX IT????? hahahahahahahahahahahah!!!

Just when I thought it was safe to get a new 2007 Ultra...

R these real problems or imagined? Easy fix? Shouldn't the dealer be fixing this?

Choo Choo, this is not in any way a flame, but all the bitching in the world on this forum isn't gonna get HD to fix a "perceived" problem. You are correct in that all should contact HD with problems, complaints, etc and when HD realizes there is a growing disatisfaction, they will act. One of the things that they will do tho is not jump at a problem , but analyze it, come up with a cost efficient (for the MOCO) fix and then roll it out in a manner that won't swamp the dealers with people crashing the service desk with worries that their bike is going to detonate if the fix isn't done. HD is not going to go belly up waranting items that actually dont impact rideability (gear whine), but will protect themselves by issuing repair campaigns to possibly fix a problem before it becomes a costly warranty issue.

As I said before this is far from my first HD, started way back in the early 70's and I keep buying them. Yes, they have peculiar problems, but they are a damn sight better today than they were 30, 20, 10 years ago. If they werent, people would eventually go elsewhere. Image will only get you so far, if you are selling bikes that can't get you around the block without taking a sh$t people will quit buying them.

For me, part of the mystique, is the little peculiar nuances, the ability to modify and customize and also the look and sound. Sorry for being so long winded but really wanted to put an alernative view out there for all to see.

You are officially under arrest! Reason? I don't think ANYONE has enough cahona's to tear a brand new bike apart like you have done in your sig. Therefore, pleading insanity may help lessen the sentence![/end hijack]

WTF are you doing? PICS???????

I plead insanity ! Long winter here, so I though I would "tinker" a bit. Here is a list so far, hope the snow melts soon or I will go broke !

HD HTCC CNC Ported heads
HD 10.5:1 flat tops pistons (bored to 103")
HD 50mm throttle body
Woods TW-400-6 cams (.650 lift, 244 duration)
Rinehart True Duals
Chrome front end kit
Renegade Daytona wheels
Pillow look seat (wife made me get it , really !)
About $3k in miscellaneous chrome odds and ends
HD Oil Cooler

Just finished today taking out the air temp gauge, (worthless really) and installing a oil temp gauge in its place.

All of the tin is in Florida being painted, wont be back until late March, maybe even early April, but this guy does work that isworth waiting for. Flames , gotta have flames.

I wll have pics once it is done and also have to have it dyno'd so will also post the dyno sheet - should make approx HP 120 and TQ 125 with conservative tuning.

Yes, I am nuts, but will have about the same amount of money in this build as buying a Screaming Eagle Ultra, but it will look better, run better, and will be unique, won't pass another one "just like mine" which would have happened if I purchased the FLHTCUSE. Plus, I am bored outta my mind, I hate winter !!!

I, too, have a Vivid Black Ultra Classic. My 5th gear is real noisy. Also, when I am down shifting (preparing to stop) I have the same noise in first gear.

question, what is wrong with your 06 running problem wise?

The '06 will be my last new HD because:

- It pings at normal temps (210 degrees or above) and under load
- I'm tired of trying to get rid of the ping. Multi-trips to dealer, meeting with regional HD rep, etc. etc. No help - just tap-dance and BS.
- Two attemps to get it dyno tuned with an independent turner resulted in MORE pinging.
- The heat is beyond my tolerance. I'vebeen riding for over 40 years, had 5 other Harleys, and had no "heat" problems with any of them. Yes, they all got HOT in stop-and-traffic, but never have I had anything like this POS.
- It appears that HD is too busy trying to correct their screw-ups on the '07's to give a hoot about the '06's

I will continue to ride this POS until I can find a buyer. If I can ever get rid of it, I'll try to find anearly model, carb, TC88 bagger and plan to ride it until I'm too old to chew my own food.

I undersand what you're saying.
I'm NOT saying "bitch" here in the forums, but "bitch" at the dealers and to HD.
Trade problems here and corrective repairs also.
Maybe one dealer has a corrective repair for a specific problem that another dealer asn't tried or thought of. so if you the owner sees it here you can at least mention to your local dealer (for whatever problem).
This gets the word out and around to the various dealers.
Next on analyzing, that's what I've been saying but in a slightly different way.
A new product (doesn't matter whose), mayb eperfect on drawing board and in lab.
But shortcomings show up during real world use.
Each person has to decide for him/her-self if it is worth "bitching" about to the dealer or moco.
If they feel it is, then they need to do so.
HD determines if there IS a problem based on consumer complaints. They build this database through the dealers AND through direct calls by customers.
That's why you need to do both. By way of a work order with the complaint (s) listed through the dealer, and by calling moco yourself. Explain the problem to the CSR and get a reference number. HD uses these to build the data base, to determine if there is a problem they need to deal with.
The sooner they get it developed the sooner a possible forthcoming fix (no guarantees).
In my case I opened the complaint with the dealer in June 06, had to go to a different dealer because of cold weather (he was closer) for same problem.
I also went to HDMOCO went it went unresolved after three times in the shop.
The dealers kept blaming on item and then fixing something else.
Finally now it appears I am going to get results. They've confirmed the issue exists, and now they say they WILL determine the cause. So it pays to be persistent.
Yes I agree in many ways the quality is better, I' bought my first one in late 71, a sportster. Had three tourings since 2000.
Buy AMERICAN I say!
but enjoy all

Oh!
I got an 06 classic.
Mine has ran a little hot in town, but seems ok on highway.
Never had any pinging issues. But I live at 6200 feet rocky mountains.
But day one I did S/E a/c, samson mufflers for baggers and stage 1 d/l
ran great for 6-7 months, then all of a sudden gutless 5th gear highway.
two different dealers three trips still not fixed.
But now they have confirmed problem exists as I have explained it. Got moco reps involved
and say they are NOW going to get it right. I believe it is sumping, now they are finally going to check for that. So we will see.
meantime I'm doing my 01flhtci restoration but leaving of the fairing as a winter project
(ok,ok it's taken 5 years so far), but making good progress this year.
I don't plan on buying anynew ones either. Getting tired of the monthly payments.
