2007 Ultra Classic problems
There is a company that came out with a fix for the transmission and I found a fix for the overheating but harley says that this will void my warrenty. So I guess we have to live with Harley Davidsons screw ups if we want to keep it under warranty. Oh by the way I did manage to get a service manager to admit that these are issues and he wasn't aware that there was a fix.
I have a 2007 Ultra Classic with 1500 miles on it now, the engine overheats and the 5th gear is noisy. I have been on a few forums and it seems that this is getting to be a common problem. You mention it to harley and their answer is that it's the nature of the beast they will not admit that they have a problem with their new bikes.

Heat is always an issue with air cooled bikes.............ride faster.
5th gear is noisy because of the cut of the gear vs. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th.......it is supposed to offer "strength" for romping on the throttle in said gear and the gear being able to take the pressure.............controversial idea round here, but I'll take it.
As for Harley admitting anything is wrong with the bike(s)............until a bike or bikes suffer failure of mechanisms, of the aforementioned reasons HD chose to build them this way, why would they?
I love mine! Stage I yours, and ride it like you stole it. If it breaks, use the warranty.
My questionto you is, with all due respect, how manyHarleys have youowned? Just wondering, and mean no disrespect.
1. For the heat issue, get the Power Commander. The bike will run much better and cooler. You can find it here http://www.fuelmotousa.com/.
2. I too have the noisey 5th gear. I did a ton of reading and searching, but with the exception of the dip stick breaking off and falling into the gears (one bike for sure), I have not read or heard of a bike with a noisey 5th that has failed. If it should happen to fail,it will be covered under warranty.
You will love the bike.
To help "quiet down" 5th gear, I personally use Mobil I Full Syn 75-90W Gear Oil from Advanced Auto in my transmission. It not only quieted down the tranny but finding neutral is a breeze. There are other brands, but Gear Oil is what was recommended to me and I like the idea. Is it 100% necessary, prolly not, but I'm sold after using it.

- 1. Do your own maintenance unless you want your bike totally screwed up by some pimple-faced kid at the dealership (or find a good tech and only schedule with him/her).
- 2. Find a good dyno tuner and have either a SERT or PC III installed to help with the heat problem. If you are concerned about the so called HD "Warranty," go with the PC III ---- then you just disconnect it when you take the bike in for warranty work and the bike is back to "box stock." Evena stone-stock bike will run much better with a good dyno tune.
- 3. If you want the bike to run "right," it is atYOUR risk of an EPA violation/fine if you change outthe stock parts for "performance" parts.
BTW, how many "stone-stock" harleys have you seen?
IMHO, the quality of TC88 bikes have been going down hill since about '04, but what do I know except my '00 wife'sFLHT runs great andmy '06 Ultra don't.....? We have owned six HD's and loved every one of them until the '06 which will be my LAST new HD.
