Tar snakes in my area too. When I had my Duece the 21 inch front was scary as hell on them. My RK is much better with the wider rubber but still no fun!
We have them here in PA also. They are in the same company as steel grated bridges!!
I have found that different tires help a lot. I had the stock dunlops on my bikes and they were all over the road with the tar snakes. The last time I needed tires I switched to Pirrelli night dragons..wow what a difference. I think it's if a tire has a tread that goes around the center of the tire it will be unstable on these damn tar snakes
This should make you cringe. These were on a road near here for a couple years. Been resurfaced since, but they were the worst I've ever seen. Treacherous on a hot or rainy day.

I saw some posts in a tire discussion about some tires being better than others on these. Guy above mentioned Pirelli's. Anybody know of other good tires in "The Snakes"?
We get em here in Ohio big time!! The freeze/thaw cycle cracks the crap outta the roads and they pour that liquid tar on like they're decorating cakes!! They scare the crap out of me! I've had some really unsettling moments!!!
i live in Louisiana and they don't use that stuff down here hell that dont use anything they just leave the cracks in the roads LOL But I did visit my father in law in NM and the 1st time I hit that stuff it scared the crap out of me!

For the guys than can run the Elite IIIs, they are good on the snakes. My buddy says the Michlen Commanders are good on his 10 Limited. Both the above are way better than the stockers.
Those pictures look like most secondary roads do in Tennessee. Any scenic drives you find around here include snakes at no extra charge. As some have said, hold your line, relax, and stay focused. My venoms know they are there, but no real pucker moments yet.
