Default Oil pressure zero at idle!

'09 SG 96".

Oil pressure just started reading zero at idle. Runs at 30 when at speed (2000RPM) Oil level shows ok. Detect a scent of burnt oil when I parled it this morning. No signs of drips.

Any one of you fine people have an idea what it may be? I am going to look through manual, but usually y'all are quicker with the oroper diagnosis!

I would second guess the accuracy of the oil pressure gauge or a defective sending unit.. You could install a manual oil pressure gauge just to test it to see if there is a potential problem.

I'd have to go with the inaccurate gauge theory.......if the OIL light isn't flickering or on full time, I'd says it's the gauge.....HISTORICALLY inaccurate!!

Using full syn Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50. 1000 miles on this oil change. First time using K&N oil filter. Noticed lower pressure at idle but wasn't at zero! I wonder if oil filter is plugged. Where is the sensor located? Before or after filter?

As long as the gauge responds as rpms go up you are fine. Since it started getting warmer, mine does the same thing.

NEVER did this last year. Just want to be sure "Lucky's"
motor isn't at risk. What makes me nervous is the smell

As stated earlier, it is the nature of the beast ... Don't forget that these engines do not have "flat bearings" ( as in automotive applications ) ... They use roller bearings and as long as the oil is circulating you'll be fine ... Volume is the key to the HD oil system, not pressure although you should see between 25 and 35 PSI at operating temperature rolling down the road ( @ 1500 rpm's and above )
