The speed limit is actually a posted MAXIMUM limit. Everyone seems to believe you should be doing at least the posted MAXIMUM speed before being allowed on the road.
I use every available option to be courteous to other drivers on the road, but for the life of me, I cannot find any place on my license or in any drivers study guide that says other drivers have the authority to dictate how I drive on the road....
Look at your license, do you see any place where it gives you authority to control any vehicle besides the one you are driving at the time?
The fast lane is for just that, going FASTER than other traffic, if you want to go slower get in the center lane, I am not telling you how to drive, I am telling you make it better for everyone. It is the LAW so everyone should do this, it makes for better flow of traffic, and less dangerous.
I will agree that Florida has a bunch of idiot drivers. I made bunch of trips to central Florida last year, and between the old fogies who should have lost their D.L. and the "street racers" I should be dead or in jail.
I had one day when an old man in a little Prius slammed on brakes in front of me because I was "going too fast." The speed limit on that road was 45, I was going 40. I needless to say got around him and left him in a cloud of exhaust. The VERY NEXT DAY I was on the way home, on I-75 doing 85 or so and this "street racer" punk almost ran me off the road. He and a buddy were racing and when they passed me had to have been doing better than 110. Did I mention that he almost ran me off the road, I dove to the shoulder to keep from being run over. I did not have the luxury of a cell phone at that moment or else he would have been in jail.
I am always careful when I ride due to the fact that so many people are blind to motorcycles. I also try to stay out of the left hand lane if possible due to jerks trying to run me over, the worst offenders often having a watch for motorcycles bumper sticker on the car. I guess growing up in a tourist trap area really helped me keep my mind on driving as everyone was a rubbernecker back home. That and a few lessons from a motorcycle cop on how to change lanes and stop in a hurry did not hurt.
And yes, I have wanted to inflict pain on some of the people on the road but I have not. I figure that they will get theirs in the end.
On my way home today on a two lane highway with posted limit of 55 (I'm doing 60) some yahoo is on my ***. He gets impatient and decides to pass. What the F he didn't see the two bikes heading in the opposite direction with full headlights and aux lights as bright as day? I started to pull off on the bicycle lane so not to be caught up in this. Good news is all ended without incident. This was no blue haired senior citizen who shouldn't be driving, it was a young punk *** kid. Fifteen minutes later another A-Hole right behind me. If I pull out the concealed I go to jail. We need state, federal, and NRA protection backing that if someone in a 4 wheel vehicle may do you harm by their actions, you may take what ever action necessary to protect yourself. I'm not one to give up easy, but it's so dam dangerous on the road you get to thinking about it.
NRA backing to shoot because a punk kid is reckless? So shoot said kid while passing and then lets see what happens. Really you save the day?
If you have thought of shooting someone over this your just the type we need to take the guns away from. Let me be clear I am all for guns in the hands of the right people but dude you don't sound right.
Open carry states are great...responsible owners rule!
Without turning this into a gun, political debate or gun forum, I open carry everywhere I am legally allowed to, Unless I am going into what is known as a Victims zone (Gun free Zone) my gun is visible to everyone.
I usually don't get tailgated, and cages are hesitant to pass aggressively on the left. Its easily noticeable when they brake to pass at a safe distance and speed.
I never challenge an aggressive driver, It is a losing proposition 99.9% of the time. As responsible gun owners we never want to be in a situation where one would have to use their firearm when in fear for their life, especially when the gun owner was the aggressor. Defending yourself in a self defense case will destroy your life as you know it, You will lose everything Including your freedom.
But being aware of these consequences, I'd rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6.
