On my way home today on a two lane highway with posted limit of 55 (I'm doing 60) some yahoo is on my ***. He gets impatient and decides to pass. What the F he didn't see the two bikes heading in the opposite direction with full headlights and aux lights as bright as day? I started to pull off on the bicycle lane so not to be caught up in this. Good news is all ended without incident. This was no blue haired senior citizen who shouldn't be driving, it was a young punk *** kid. Fifteen minutes later another A-Hole right behind me. If I pull out the concealed I go to jail. We need state, federal, and NRA protection backing that if someone in a 4 wheel vehicle may do you harm by their actions, you may take what ever action necessary to protect yourself. I'm not one to give up easy, but it's so dam dangerous on the road you get to thinking about it.
I must be getting old...Hell I am in old but not in dog years thank god. It's all changed out there. If your not riding in a defensive posture the entire time while riding then you're asking for it IMHO. I've always tried to kind of ride ahead of traffic if I could but any more it almost seems impossible. Some might of said that guy is riding to aggressive but it was in an effort to stay away from peeps if at all possible, not any more?
Seems any more there's always one or more A-holes out there who have to be ahead of you even if that means one second or two. Then there's the yahoos who just have to race to the next "red light". Seems as more and more peeps have their head so far up their 4th point of contact anymore...I just don't get it. I spend more time dodging these A-wipes than enjoying the ride sometimes. Although it frustrating and dangerous I just cuss them excessively under my breath and wait for karma to catch up with them. The flying single finger is my only arsenal now. Besides, now-a-days you never know who's packing...they might just shoot back or use their vehicle as a weapon. Keep the rubber side down & do ride "defensively".
its called the 'drivers handbook'. if the speed limit is 45, you're doing 40 in the left lane, and someone comes up behind you, you are required by law to move over and allow them to pass you. here in la, if you are doing 55 in a 45 in the left lane, and don't allow someone who is doing 60 to pass, you can get a ticket for impeding traffic. everyone involved might all get a speeding ticket too.
course, this is one of those laws that are only selectively enforced.
That one book/pamphlet is called the 'drivers handbook'. There are many other driver study guides...
You completely missed my other point also. Everyday citizens DO NOT have the authority to dictate what I do, even though I may not be guilty of what we are discussing. I doubt a citizens arrest would work today, you'd better be wearing the best made combat gear if you decide to attempt it...
My point was that there are officers who DO have the authority to enforce laws, and even though they cannot catch every infraction committed, it does not leave room for those who get pissed because somebody isn't adhering to the law(s), using what they consider good sense, or proper driving etiquette. Get pissed all you want, if you do anything more then you may also be breaking the law...
Aggression is worse on the street and a sign of the times, where it used to be the exception it now is the norm. Title 13 states if the action of another person males you afraid for your life and there's no other option you are entitled to defend yourself...just be prepared to end up having to defend that position in a court of law. There has to be a better way to discourage asshat behavior in traffic than to reenact the OK Coral. Where does it end, people having wild west shootouts in the streets....its madness and those more civilized should only resort to such tactics under the right circumstances....
Obviously Florida is a little to free with CCW's as evidenced by your comments and another wanna be in the national news. Glad I'm nowhere around your neck of the woods since I usually roll 10-15 mph over the posted limit.
Its not necessary to insult the OP who is venting his concern for the escalating aggression being demonstrated by today's drivers. Its usually the ones who don't talk about it that end up opening up on innocent civilians.....
There's *** holes everywhere, not just on the road. Neighbors, coworkers, etc. The list goes on and on. It's the trickle down theory, kids do what their parents do to the next level and pass that stupidity on to their kids and it keeps multiplying. Maybe I'm getting old, but I have a very low tolerance for stupidity.
oh Lord help me...I wasn't going to join this conversation but what the heck.
I used to get really PO'd over the tailgaters but I also know that I lose every time in a bike vs cage contest. So, I usually pull as far to the right as I can and just wave them by. I'd say about 2/3 of the time I get a thank you wave but either way, I rather have them in front of me where I can see them than having them climb up my butt. Funny thing is that I'm rarely under or at the speed limit and on some of these Texas country roads, the speed limit is north of 60mph so these folks are really flying in those pickups!
I still get mad my share of times but the reality is, the person/people in that cage don't know me, don't care about me, and certainly in most cases couldn't care less how po'd I might be. Let em go, you'll live longer!
This post has morphed into so many topics gun control, fanatic people, and insults. TUCCI hit it right on the head. Yeah I was pissed, wasn't just me I was concerned for. Had two other riding brothers caught up in the A-holes actions. You have talk about stuff and let it out it or it will comes out sideways. It's a new day, I'm over it, suns out, its beautiful riding weather, lets go have a cold one.
