Curious as to how many with noisy engines are using synthetic oil and how many are using dino? Has anyone switched back to dino from synthetic and noticed a change in engine noise. My dealer final noticed the Rattling Marble sound and is checking with Harley on it.

i have gone back to straight oil. I run 50 weight in my 110 and only change to a multi grade during the winter months of Nov to Feb. Otherwise its 50 weight. I am temped to use the Amsoil 60 weight but its synthetic and i don't want more noise.

Out for a ride tonight and was thinking the exact same thing. Just had the 1000 mile service done at the dealership, switched to H-D syn 3.

I switched from syn to dino and have noticed a significant reduction in noise. Currently using valvoline vr-1 50w

I was trying to figure out if I had more noise with the new cams or without. I don't really think I noticed a change with syn vs dino except for significant decrease in engine temp, I think that warrants sticking with syn.

I will keep the synthetic. it is better for the motor, no matter what the sound.

Not to start another oil thread pissing match, but you realize that noise indicates metal to metal contact? Most syn oils now meet the reduced zddp formula mandated by the epa. The reason I use the vr1 is because it has a higher level of zddp. This additive is what prevents metal to metal contact in an oiled environment.
