Default Nuetral Light on while riding

So, this has happened a few times and always right after I have washed it, the following morning or when it's been in the rain. Washed the bike this morning and it happened going out to lunch and I only use low pressure water.

The neutral light will sometimes come on all the time or come on intermittently. Once, the red key light came on as well. After a while (I assume once everything has had a chance to dry) it stops. Sometimes when it happens tapping the gear shift will cause it to flicker or go out as well.

So, it's gotta be something is getting wet and maybe affecting the contacts, but what? Is there anything I can do to prevent it besides not getting the bike wet. You think replacing the neutral indicator sensor would help?

Thanks,

Robert

There was a recent post on this very thing. It seems to have a variety of causes. Yours being another one to add to the mix. Honestly, it's one of the few quirks on my bike that I don't worry about, especially since it doesn't happen all that often and the bike runs fantastic otherwise. The neutral light is a nice reference however I pretty much can feel when I'm in neutral and if I have any doubt I just feather the clutch and I am sure. The security light, well I don't worry about anyone stealing my bike.....especially when I'm on it! Now maybe if I rode alot in South Central LA.

You can't use cruise when the neutral light is on.

I wasn't aware of that. Since my problem is always when in the mountains, on the twisties I don't believe I've ever tried to engage the CC. I'll have to check on that next time I have this situation.

In your case, you may want to put some silicone around the connector where the wire enters the tranny. That may be all you need since your problem only happens after a wet down.
