The trike is at least 300 pounds heavier, and has got two HUGE rear tires creating friction. You need a crapload of power to overcome that. In addition, you've got an untuned trike, so your motor isn't being all it can be.
Ok guys, I have finally read all your responses, Jamie at fuel moto said my pcv would work on the trike, and I just used my brothers 103 map. this made a big difference. so I went to my harley dealer and asked about a cam job to get more torque and hp. they said the 255s are a good low end cam and the could dyno the trike "with the se tuner" they cut me a good deal, and it would not affect warranty.got the bike back, very little difference, actualy worse taking off from dead still. then I found out they couldnt dyno the trike, wont fit. so one of you guys said all they could do is a street legal tune ? I took it back to them , I was not pleased, they tuned on it some more, said it runs like a raped ape they said, very little difference. all I want to do is save the map thats in the bike now, hook my power commander back up to it and get Jamie to send me a map for a 103 with 255s and start tuning on it and see if Ican get it any better. Im already in the hole for about $475 for the se tuner. one of you said take it to pc beach harley, well the dealer Im using is pensacola harley, .is this it or is there another harley dealer in pensacola? I know this bike can run more powerful than it is now, I just cant do anything with the se tuner, thats why I want to go to the pcv. can I just plug in the pcv on top of the tune thats in it now? Im ignorant when it comes to tuning a bike. Would auto tune help on top of the pcv I have now? I dont want to dish out no more money than I have to. anymore suggestions? I realy appreciate everyones comments and replies, I just want to get all my money's worth, thanks, Eddie
P.S. The reason I went with the se tuner is because that was the only way they would stand behind it, they wouldnt tune it with the power commander. Besides, they tuned my new sporty with a se tuner and done a jam up job
Got a feeling if it is making 103 hp with a 255 someone has either done a miracle or is fibbing. If they don't have a dyno how did the 103 hp come in. That seems a little on the high side. There are SEPST canned maps that will work pretty good. I modified a SEPST map and was going to attach it but even with compression it was too large. Send me a PM with your email address and I can email it to you if you want it. It is currently running on a 2010 triglide and has a very good timing map.
1. The Trike is heaver
2. The Trike has more friction to over come with both the extra tires and the drive train
3 Your engine probably is not properly tuned.
I would bet that even if you were making the exact same power as a bike the Trike would feel considerably slower. If you want to get te most out of your build either find a place that can dyno the Trike or buy a tuner that can "auto tune". If you already have a PC call Fuel Moto and see if they still have the trade in deal and get a Power Vision with a base MAP from Jamie and then do some data runs and self tune.
I've got to re do my signature, its a 103 motor, only 88 hp, 101 tq, sorry about that. thanks to a fellow member on here, I called panama city beach harley and they "can actually dyno trikes" got an appointment for next monday morning, its only about 3-4hrs for me depending on traffic, Then I will deal with pensacola harley since I paid for a dyno there. you guys have been very helpful, I will keep you posted after the tune and see what kind of numbers I end up with. thanks,Eddie

I should have realized it was a 103 and not 103 HP. My bad. After I looked at it it was easy to see.
Ok guys, here is the scoop, panama city beach florida harley dealer dynoed the trike, there machine got hit by lightning, so I had to leave my trike with them. it took 4 or 5 days to get the parts in and back running. come to find out there are only 3 places in the u. s. that has a dyno for a trike, so if this is true, I guess I got lucky, Its a 3 to 4 hr. trip one way depending on traffic. they dynoed my trike and delivered it to my house, I thought that was very nice of them. the numbers actually went down, I got 78 horse power peaking at about 5000 rpm. It got 98.46 lbs of torque, bare in mind this is actually numbers at th wheels. it moved the power band down some witch is what I wanted, taking off from a dead still is much better. power between 2- 3500 rpms is much better. and it went from 27 or 28 mpg to like 30.9 mpg. So best I can figure, it takes 10 more hp to push the beast down the road than a 2 wheel bike and about3 or 4 more lbs of torque. like one of you guys said, I was expecting way more out of it. If I would have known then what I know now, I wouldnt of spent the money unless I could actually go into the motor and do head work, high compression pistons, etc. Or even punch it out to a 107 or hell just go for it and get a 120r put in it. oh well, live and learn, thanks for your input guys, ride safe
Glad ya got it going. Numbers look about right for a trike with your mods. There are lots of dynos out there that a trike will fit on so that is just BS.
