Default se 255s, no difference

I recently traded my egc for a 2012 triglide due to health reasons. I took all my mods off before trading. I put an 09 catless stock headpipe on the trike, 3.5" rineharts, se air and a power commander. since I went from a 96" to a 103 on the trike, I downloaded my brothers map off of his 103 sg. trike ran good, just sluggish at highway speeds, especialy 5th and 6th gear and a little dead spot on take off. over all a big improvement over stock. so I wanted to beef it up a little, so I went with the se 255s, new lifters and pushrods, then the dealer told me the trike would not fit there dyno machine, so they were winging it. Got it back, take off is worse, and I really cant tell a whole lot of difference from before the cam job so I took it back to the dealer , told them all this, they "tweaked" it some more, take off is a little better and the bike is maybe a little faster, just didnt have the wow factor I was expecting. I have rode a roadglide with a 103, se air, jackpots and a power commander and it would fly for a harley. the dealer keeps telling me that the trike weighs 300 pounds more, and dont shift into 6th gear until75 mph.I think they are full of s--t. can I download there map , go back to stock, then put my power commander in and get a map from Jamie or keith? the only thing I changed was I went to the V& h power duals. Am I expecting to much? they said they got 87.81 hp, and101.57 pounds of torque,I find that hard to believe, if so, I spent alot of money for a little bit more performance. any of you experienced this, or have any suggestions? Im kind of stuck here beings the bike is still under warranty. Any help or suggestions are gratly apprciated, thanks, Eddie

The trike is at least 300 pounds heavier, and has got two HUGE rear tires creating friction. You need a crapload of power to overcome that. In addition, you've got an untuned trike, so your motor isn't being all it can be.

Bull,

Did they tell you they couldn't dyno your teike ahead of time? If they did why did you use them? Or why didn't you get an auto tune fueler like my Thunder Max?

If they didn't, take the trike back to them and tell them to make it run right.

How did they get hp and torque readings if they didn't have a trike capable dyno?

I won't even get into asking why the hell you decided on a street / EPA legal 255 cam....

Find a dealer/mechanic that knows how to adjust the SE tuner using smart tune. Is this as good as a dyno tune "NO" but they can get them close if they know what they are doing. I do not have anything but V&H Power Duals, SE mufflers, and SE ventilator air cleaner using the SE tuner and smart tuning it on my 2012 trike, and it runs great. It is heavier like said before by at least 300 lbs, no matter how well tuned your current setup will never be as fast as a 2 wheel 103.

The 255's are a perfect cam for the trike. (Or any touring bike for that matter) Who gives a **** about the peak HP numbers when you're trying to get the trike up to speed. If you're drag racing, you want more than just cams anyways. 5hp/tq is easily going to be overcome by rider skill.

I have 255's also and very similar TQ and HP numbers. Albeit i have a 96". I do agree that there is a better cam than the 255 for the 103 but it is still no slouch. With my wife on the back, 120lbs I can definitely feel a difference in power. I can only imagine the parasitic loss with the 2 car tires in back, not even taking into account the 2+ extra wives you're lugging around!

Agreed. I think you're used to higher performance scooters and may need to adjust your expectations...after you find a dunk that can fit your tri.

If your brother has all the hardware/software, run the "smart tune" yourself.

Must be the tune.
I have the 255's myself.
When you find the right tune on it, you better hang on!
Should be a growling beast!

You have a few things to consider

1. The Trike is heaver
2. The Trike has more friction to over come with both the extra tires and the drive train
3 Your engine probably is not properly tuned.

I would bet that even if you were making the exact same power as a bike the Trike would feel considerably slower. If you want to get te most out of your build either find a place that can dyno the Trike or buy a tuner that can "auto tune". If you already have a PC call Fuel Moto and see if they still have the trade in deal and get a Power Vision with a base MAP from Jamie and then do some data runs and self tune.

Power Vision would be a good idea at this point, if you cant find a dyno.
