Default Electric starter noise
My 2005 FLHR with carb has recently started to make an obscene clunk when I hit the starter button. Only sometimes. Then it will start as normal. New battery, connections good and clean. Around 20,000 miles. Any Ideas about this awful sound? Thanks.

My 09 was doing the same thing. Replaced starter and no more problems.

Yea, Mine started doing it also. I contributed it to the recent big bore kit but I think it's probably time to replace with a Heavy Duty starter. I see them on Ebay but don't know about quality.
