I would NOT pay that much for such a old bike. The only person who should pay that much is somebody who has some sort of sentimental attachment to that particular color/year. You should at LEAST look at a 2007 or 2008. The engine is improved immensely, and it has the older frame that you're attracted to.

Thanks Ben .Thats the kind of advice I need to keep emotions at bay. The bike I pictured above your post is an 07 but riddled with accessories I don't want and would remove, Flames and skulls and Studs (that are not continued on the bags)... so stereotypical. and that bike has both. But it is an 07 and I would offer $11,000 cash and sell a lot of whats on it and hope he has the stock seat.
Ride both, see what you like better. I think both bike are fair deals. I you really want a Harley, just get the King.
I played the $ game for years, but always wanted an HD, I let the cost of the metrics push me, but I always was wanting more. I am very happy with my 06 (same 88CI as the 04) and I don't have that burning desire to keep buying bikes.
I think if you can do the king for 6400 and your bike you are getting 3000 for your trade. If that's Ok with you i see no problem. Get the dealer to put 2 tires on it and 5000k service. 9500 for the king is a fair deal 11,000 k is fishing. Hoping a dealer can sell it with financing to some one who cant afford to buy private. I personal would not pay that but i am cheap and there are deals to be had. Seals? don't worry about it. Seals could and do screw up on new or used. They don't dry out that quick. Your bike is a good looking piece and should sell pretty easy. Dont be in a hurry...... Good luck dude!!! Have fun

Thanks Man. Great advice. And no I would not take $3000 for my bike. I would keep it before accepting that as Actual Cash Value. I am cheap too. But also a tad Ignorant as to real values of today's Harleys. I never see actual Selling prices...only asking prices.
That bike has been there for months. Already went through the Spring when the month before Bike Week is the hottest time to sell a bike. The Fall Rally not so much. A Lot of HD riders don;t ride year round here or use their bike as commuters like I do. Lots of low mileage 8 year old bikes. Not many RK Customs though.
All you need to do is make an offer. Fair price I would say is around $8000-9000. What can they say no? Looking at their site they are over priced on all their bikes anyway. My uncle just picked up a 2010 RK with 3k on it for $13k. The deals are out there just gotta keep looking. Good luck
The Dickster has a rule about buying a bike, or ANY vehicle--Never EVER buy used from a dealer; you will get raped everytime, on the price of the bike & all fees.
The '04 is way overpriced. The '07 is still high, but a little closer to reality since it has the 96" motor & 6-speed tranny. Forget the Sporty; you will outgrow it very quickly.
The price of both of the RKs is a little high, but you can negotiate either down. I would say El Paso on the Vic, but that's just me.
And don't get too hung up on how someone else has accessorized a bike. You will never find one that is exactly as you want it the way it sits. You can always yank all those skulls off that 07 (and I would too) and change the wheels when funds allow. As long as you like the basic bike and paint scheme, all the rest is fluff that you can and will change.
Someone once said that u shouldn't judge a book by its cover. A relatively high percentage of HD owners do their own maintenance/mods. Whenever you look at used machinery u need to know exactly what work has been done and whether it was done properly. HD's are expensive to buy and expensive to wrench and that's doing the work yourself. At first blush I'd take the RK over the 07 - but that's based on what I've just said. Totally agree that the 96 is a better engine - depending!!
I see you are in SC. Go look at some other locations within your driving distance. Make a trip out of it. In the Cola area hit up Sandlapper Cycles in Chapin. He gets a lot of "garage queens" and has good prices because he has low overhead. It's not a shop, but only bike sales.
