Question: will 08 and up bars (tbw) work on an 05 (non tbw) RK? Reason I am asking is because I am looking for new bars and the closest ones I can find are only offered for TBW set up. The only differance is the notches in the bar end on the throttle side. Here is a link to the ones that I have found:
The '08 and up bars will work with your dual cable set up. You;ll have the notches in the bars for the TBW, but once installed you probably won't see them.
Take a look at the bars on http://www.khromewerks.com/, they have a huge selection of bars of all difference heights and pullback, great prices too.
The TBW bars are about 1/4 or 1/2" shorter, and the end is notched. I decided I did not like the lack of support to the end of the throttle tube, and didn't want the notched ends to possibly dig into the throttle tube. So I did not go with this type myself.
Are you really sure you cannot find this model bar in the conventional configuration? Perhaps if you identify the bar some folk here could help you find the same in a conventional configuration.
Thanks for the input. I've been looking for days and haven't found them in a non tbw set up (but I may have just not found em yet). I've got a link in my first post that is for the bars I'm looking at but incase the link isn't working they are the "Bagger Werx Swedged Wide Apes" in a 14 inch height. Thanks again.
Arg! I missed that. Though it does say it will work all the way back through 1973, and I've no doubt it would. Don't misunderstand my concern, it's a personal thing, and probably not real.
Even I would end up throwing in the towel and running a notched handlebar if it was the only thing I could find that spec'd up the way I want it. I might try figuring out a plug, or I might consider filing down the sharp edges to prevent them from possibly digging into the throttle tube.
We'll I went and did what I should of done a week ago... I gave up on the Internet and went to the book, the drag specialties fat book. They have a plug for the tbw bars for 6 bucks (go figure it'd be that easy, lol). So it looks like I'm getting the bars I want and pluging the notches. Thanks for all the help. Should be ordering early next week, I'll let y'all know how it turns out.
