I am going to go to a shorter windshield on my Ultra Classic and trying to find the right one. I am thinking on the 8" Fastaire areo or Long Ride. Can anybody give me there experience or ideas on these windshields.

Just bought a 8"LRS. For $90 it's hard to beat.

I too, just bought an 8" LRS. With all the bikes I have ever owned, going back to the 60's I have looked thru the windshield, after a near wreck because of glare I just this week switched to the 8". I find the wind still hits me about the same place my 10" look thru did but I can see much clearer with the LRS. I had priced around and LRS is the least expensive, shipping is real fast and the product is great.

I cut the stock windscreen down to desired height.

20 minutes with a rotozip incl. coffee.

cut the bottom, hidden edge

cost =$0

I have the Fast Aire "Aero" Windshield (Dark Gray, 8-inch) on my 2011 SG (see my sig pic) and I could not be happier. The "Aero" was a HUGE improvement over the 4-inch stock windshield.

The "Aero" uses a recurve design, is made of polycarbonate, and costs under $90. Jim Blackmon is a stand-up guy who took the time to answer all my questions on design and sizing. I don't think you'd be disappointed.

Be sure not to go too low regardless of which you choose to go with. The top of the shield needs to be level with between the tip of your nose and mouth. A fairly simple trick to determine this, assuming you have the stock 12" shield on there, is to mark the shield with tape or something right in your line of site. Then, measure from the center of the screw up to the tape. Then, subtract 2 inches from this measurement. Basically, you want to be looking over your shield by about 2 inches. If you were looking right at the top edge of the shield, you'd want to be 2 inches below that. Good luck!

I just received my 7"LRS and could have gone with the 8". This one will work for now, but I might go with the 8" next time for winter riding. It will be another LRS.
