ok when I get into it hard I hear a clicking or tap from the left side of motor and when im just running about 2500 rpm then hit the throttle I hear a click or a tap on the left side of motor .im thinking my primary chain is loose . .I have 3 weeks left on my warranty. so yes I do hear everything lol
Might be the compensator sprocket - mine was just replaced. On and off the throttle sounded like a clunk/chain. Whatever it is, take it in if it's still under warranty.
if you have the automatic primary chain tensioner, it could be primary chain not ratcheting up ...i have used the following procedure to "tighten up/ ratchet up the tensioner on my 2010 FLHTK....sometimes the auto tensioner gets "stuck"..
find a safe straight piece of road...
accelerate hard in first gear to around 30 mph..
brake hard using only the rear brake (don't lock up the wheel)...
don't pull in the clutch until it slows almost all the way down...
repeat this 2-3 times...
i have done this twice with success over the last three years when hearing "clatter"....the auto-adjusting primary chain tensioner will "ratchet" (tighten up) the primary chain...hope this might help..
had it there twice in the last 3 weeks .both times they never took it for a ride ,they tell me the same thing ,they say just hammer it hard from the get go and that should take care of it .but it does not .so just for piece of mine ,Friday I will pull the primary cover off.
I just got back from Harley ,they removed the primary cover and it was good ,new gasket and red line 70 weight , they then put it on the dyno and got it hot , and that noise was there , it was pinging .so they called fuel moto, got a new map with more fuel and after running over 100 miles in 93 heat ,no pinging ,nothing , happy now , and oh yeah no charge either.
