A bra came w/my bike. Was afraid to look under it but when remove, fairing was like new. Bike had 4400 miles at the time. Have put in on when riding long distances on interstates to protect. Have had no problem with paint.

I agree with all. They damage the paint getting it off and on plus the paint fades different from the rest of the bike.

I ran one on my 01' E-glide for 60k miles and liked it. Easy to get the bugs off of. I did remove the bra a couple time a year and waxed the heck out of the fairing. Painted still looked great when I totaled the bike. I would have one on my roadglide but I don't like the mounting Harley uses, my fairing has suffered for not having one.

ORIGINAL: Stash

I will be towing my bike to several ralleys this summer. I prefer to tow the 1000 miles and then be fresh to ride for days once I get there so pleasedon't turn this post into a tow or no-tow debate.

Since I tow with an open trailer, I was wondering if a fairing bra might help to protect from any stone, debris, damage...etc. I have had front end bras on automobiles I've owned and in each case the car was left with some paint damage due to movement of the bra. However, what I planned to do was use the bra only for towing protection and not necessarly ride with it.

Opinions please. Will this protect the bike from possible damage or contribute to more damage? Any riders out there have a fairing bra on your bike? How easy are they to install & remove? Advice???

Couldn't hurt if you were just using it while you "towed" your scoot.......and by the way that whole "I want to be fresh when I get where I'm going" is just a cop out, ride the freakin' bike and enjoy the experience [sm=imsorry.gif]

You think a bra might damage your paint? Try trailering with a cover or tarp on the bike, and you WILL have damage. If you must trailer (God forbid), buy an enclosed one.

do not use a cover as somebody suggested. No matter how secure you think the cover is it will chafe and make a disaster of your paint. I am in the market for a closed 10 or 12 foot trailer for this purpose. Flat open trailers are nice but offer no security from the elements or people. Maybe look into a UHaul closed tralier.

FWIW, I picked-up for free a damaged outer fairing; the damage was the threaded mountings below each mirror were broken, leaving the three windshield and two lower fork mounting locations. I purchased and installed the HD bra just to give my white bike a different look and the bra mounts securely even without the two attachment points. As for taking it on and off, I have had the fairing on and off several times since installing the bra without any problems; of course, I don't take the bra completely off the fairing; getting it around the headlight was a pita when installing it the first time, so I don't mess with the bra there.

10-4 on not using a tarp or other tied down bike cover; if you have ever seen a load covered with a tarp on an open trailer or pick-up truck there is a lot of flapping going on; that translates into abrasion on the bike's paint or chrome or both.

[sm=WTFsgign.gif]You don't like to ride? That is why we buy there over priced things. Its about the total adventure. Ok sorry...turned it into the tow vs no-tow thing....sorry.
