I will be towing my bike to several ralleys this summer. I prefer to tow the 1000 miles and then be fresh to ride for days once I get there so pleasedon't turn this post into a tow or no-tow debate.
Since I tow with an open trailer, I was wondering if a fairing bra might help to protect from any stone, debris, damage...etc. I have had front end bras on automobiles I've owned and in each case the car was left with some paint damage due to movement of the bra. However, what I planned to do was use the bra only for towing protection and not necessarly ride with it.
Opinions please. Will this protect the bike from possible damage or contribute to more damage? Any riders out there have a fairing bra on your bike? How easy are they to install & remove? Advice???
If you're worried about damage when towing why don't you just use a cover on the bike - that would give more protection than just a bra and might even be cheaper.
I' ve never heard anything bad about them, but do not use armor all on them, it will fade the paint. Did this onan old vehicle of mine and it faded the paint.
Don't buy one unless you have an extra fairing. Friend of mine ruined his original fairing.....bra rubbed right through the paint. 2003 Anniversary Silver and Black. Had it repainted and stored it. Put the bra on a fairing he bought on eBay and installed, and runs with it. If it gets wet underneath.....which it will....the moisture will screw-up your finish too.
I eventually plan to be able to do a similar thing but will be loading my bike into the back of my 3/4 ton truck hooking up a camper and going to a central place. At any rate I plan on using a cover and a tarp to protect it. I don't like bra's becasue they are likely to catch debris and cause scratches plus what is the point of having a nice paint job if you're just going to cover it up? All that I have seen and read about them says that they are a PIA to put on and take off. Let us know what you do and how it works out.
Only thing a bra will do is flatten your nipples...
I had one on a car once, and it did not really do anything other than make a funny noise, and scratch the paint... I know that road debris is a concern, that is why I would say you would be better off with an enclosed trailer... I know, I know... spending your money, but if you are really concerned, that is what I would do.
