Id ride. thats not a big deal on a HD. Ive had this on one of my bikes. If it getts to point where theres a puddle then id worry. Otherwise ride and enjoy.
so just ride her you say? Bike runs just fine as is too. Ill have to clean her off and see how much it seeps out. Worry about dirt and water getting inside though.....
That oil is being forced out under pressure. Nothing is going to go in from the outside. "I" would leave it alone. For a 7 year old Harley engine, I'd say you're doing fine! (now clean off that tranny cover!)
I have seen this kind of thing before. Often cast halves don't mate absolutely perfect. This has no effect on their function. The seepage is due to the sealing compound gradually breaking down. Not a big deal.
My .02 worth - I dont think tightening one bolt would do any good. The compression friction of the cylinders against both halves of the motor would negate any re-torquing benefit.
Each half of the motor case is a diecasting and due to multiple issues, the die can shift or wear so the outer half of each casting can grow in size due to production numbers. If one half has 1000 castings & the other half has 10,000 castings, the die w/ the 10K castings will produce a slightly larger OD due to die wear. Depending on engineering specs, a seam misalignment of .010 - .030 would be expected.
Case alignment shifting should only be a concern if the machined mating surfaces under the cylinders has shifted as well. If this happens normally you would see oil leaking from under the cylinder base.
* 07 TQ Values - Engine Case Assembly - Torquing in sequence as pictured in the manual ( 9 bolts) , 10 ft. lbs for the first round then again to 15-19 ft. lbs in the same sequence as a final torque.
I have seen quiet of few like that.
Do a search and you may see it has happened quiet a few times.
This is only one forum and not everyone will post or join to post things.
So, it may be rather normal in HD's eyes.
OP when I split my cases to swap out the crank I found that there is some **** pore machining where the halves come together. About 1/2 from that seam is the oil galley for the top end oil supply. Only way to fix it is to split the cases. Wash it and ride on.
