Default this cant be good!?! lower rear case split??

Sitting in garage enjoying a beer admiring my hard work of my ape install and this catches my eye. Right on the rear of the motor in front of the trans a huge crack and looks to be moister. I run my finger along it and the AC side is taller then the other. Got to be where the lower case comes together but is this normal? Looks odd as hell.
Motor is a 2006 88

Seepage is/can be normal...

but, I believe your case halves are out of whack. The case side of the cylinder/crankcase mating surfaces look to be misaligned to me.

I would accept some difference in the mating around the case in other areas. But the machined surface where the cylinders mate with the crank case should be pretty critical. I believe it is originally machined after the two halves are mated together, before installing the crank shaft.

Only way I know to correct it, would be to disassemble the top end at the least. Then loosen the case bolts, and attempt to twist them back where they should be. With the cylinders removed, you should be able to get a straight edge across the surfaces to measure any deviance.

Of course, you have to realize, I'm only going by a few pictures. A closer look by a professional would be called for before anything else...

The case halves are quite often not aligned perfectly, but the machined cylinder/case surfaces I'm speaking of is critical IMHO.

My first action would be to torque that bolt where the seepage is. Seepage is also not uncommon. The angle of the pic I'm looking at could be causing me to see something that is not there.

After looking over the pics several times now, it doesn't look like the seepage is coming from the cylinder/case surface. Looks more like the oil stain starts below that point. The second pic is the one that made me think the cylinder/case surface was mismatched. But, that is also the pic that best shows the oil stain is not originating from those surfaces...

Sorry pics are hard to see I can grab some more when my phone charges. Its deff the lower case where the oil leak is and where the misalignment is. I'm going to lose my mind with this bike. Ready to just sell the damn thing.

As small as the seepage seems to be, I would just say it's normal after reviewing the pics a few times. If the cases were as misaligned as I originally thought, I would expect greater oil leak than what the stain indicates. We all worry over our bikes way too much really.

I would ride it...

Sorry for the alarm from my first posts, but the more I look at it, the less it looks to be serious. Like I said, I might torque that case bolt, but just leaving it as is would tell you if it's getting worse. If you torque the bolt, and it gets worse you won't know if that caused it to get worse. Just clean the stain off a bit, and ride it, then see if any further seepage develops.

Not off hand, I don't...

If necessary, after a while you could always ask a local dealer. Maybe somebody will come in later today and post it up for ya, or suggest, confirm, disagree with what I've said.
