New tire delemma

My original Dunlops lasted almost 12k, But they were dried up,cracking,rear would sing like zzzzzzzzz in curves.H-Dealer tells me they changed em an new ones were better (ha).Looked and felt the same. Had almost 3k on em when I picked up a 1/4 x 4" bolt with the rear, OK stuff happens, Took it to my new favorite Indy (closer to home)an they recommended the Michelin Commander II. I felt the difference instantly, It feels much smoother,likes the big sweeping curves. Then a few days later I noticed the front Dunlop was splitting around the sidewalls, big long splits not just cracking like the old ones. took it back to my H-Dealer where I bought em, Dunlop said they'd relplace it but I had to pay em to install it! 85 freakin bucks! To install a front tire. No wonder they call em stealerships. I'll be keeping a close eye on it and if/when I need a replacement I'm getting a Michelin and not from H-D!
